After an extensive and successful 14-year career in the New Zealand’s funds management industry, including Portfolio Management roles for some of NZ’s leading wealth management, insurers, and banks, Michael was headhunted by CommInsure in 2007 as Head of Investment Strategy. The initial focus of this role was on the restructure and enhancement of the underperforming $14b investment portfolios. This was achieved via manager selection, asset allocation, introduction of dynamic asset allocation and portfolio risk management approaches, including the implementation of more advanced portfolio construction techniques such as liability driven investing (LDI).
Michael also initiated and implemented CommInsure’s responsible investing approach. This involved becoming a signatory to the United Nations Principles of Responsible Investing (UNPRI) in 2009, the business then featured as a best practice case study for the UN PRI 2010 Report on Progress. Michael featured in a book on Sustainable Investing in 2012.
